Corporate entrepreneurial behavior of latecomer technology firms
Corporate entrepreneurship can be defined as the pursuit of opportunities. Two relevant sources of opportunities for technology firms are considered in This work namely the customer and technology. In the context of Singapore, where her indigenous technology firms are considered to be latecomers, four possible firm types are suggested namely, evolvers, pioneers, specialists and disruptors. Further, it is offered that each of these firm types would correspond to varying strategic orientations i.e. customer orientation and/or technology orientation which reflects the firms' preference towards the source of opportunity to pursue. Based on the firm's adopted strategic orientation, This work proposes that the firm's corporate entrepreneurial behavior measured using the entrepreneurial orientation construct would vary. The implication of MNCs as both customers and technology source on corporate entrepreneurial behavior of latecomer technology firms is also highlighted.
