ESTILOS PARENTAIS DE ADOLESCENTES DO ABC PAULISTA: ASSOCIAÇÕES COM PERSONALIDADE E SATISFAÇÃO COM A VIDA
The present study investigated the associations of parenting styles with the personality and life of satisfaction of adolescents, in addition to identifying according to sociodemographic characteristics. The participants were 361 high school students from public schools in ABC Paulista, aged between 14 and 18 years (M= 15.49; SD= 1.12), the majority (71.2%) being female. The Escala de Responsividade e Exigência Parental (EREP), the Big Five InventoryII (BFI-2) and the Escala de Satisfação com a Vida (ESV) were the instruments applied. The responsiveness dimensions were positively associated with life satisfaction (r between 0.47 and 0.49) and negatively with neuroticism and conscientiousness (r between -0.19 and -0.29). The dimensions of responsiveness (father and mother) were predictive of life satisfaction and neuroticism. Adolescents had higher averages than boys in neuroticism, agreeableness and maternal requirement. It is suggested that the impacts of parenting styles in the lives of adolescents can decrease over time, and it is important that parents take responsibility for the development of their children together. Guidance programs for parents and educators can act as strategies to prevent violence, suicide, drug use, and the development of psychopathologies.
