Namun kenyataan di lapangan masih banyak kalangan profesional (guru atau keonselor di sekolah maupu luar sekolah, akademik maupun mahasiswa) yang belum familiar atau mengenal dengan metode ekspositori. Isu ini dapat menjadi ancaman bagi harmonisasi dan keefektifan pelayanan bimbingan dan konseling terutama di lingkungan pendidikan, apabila tidak dijadikan bahan rujukan untuk diskusi ataupun mencari alternatif pemecahannya dari semua pihak dari kalangan praktisi, pendidik maupun birokrasi ataupun ahli lainnya. Metode ekspositori dianalogikan dengan metode ceramah dan konvensional, metode pembelajaran yang menekankan kepada proses penyampaian materi secara verbal dari seseorang guru kepada sekelompok siswa atau peserta didik dengan maksud agar siswa dapat menguasai materi pembelajaran secara optimal. Guru cenderung menjadi lebih berperan sebagai fokus pembelajaran yang memberikan informasi sedangkan peserta didik tidak terlalu banyak aktivitas untuk menemukan materi. Dalam pelaksanaan bimbingan dan konseling guru BK atau konselor berdampingan menggunakan metode ekspositori dalam bentuk ceramah, demonstrasi, tanya jawab dan penugasan. Konselor atau guru BK menyiapkan materi layanan, dengan menggunakan berbagai media baik langsung maupun elektronik (film, tulisan, gambar dan simulasi) dengan memberikan kesempatan kepada peserta didik sehingga dapat mencapai kemandirian yang utuh dan optimal dalam kehidupan pribadi, sosial dan karir serta mencapai keselarasan antara pikiran, perasaaan dan perilaku.
