This paper describes the facility and discusses its cost of operation, limitations, and uses. The data gathering facility has been used both to support development and improvements in the operating system and by operating systems researchers. It can be concluded that while there are costs associated with the operation of the facility, the benefits which are derived from prudent use of the facility outweigh these costs.
