This list of abbreviations and glossary of terms is compiled from terminology that is used in this publication. An entry with an asterisk in the list of abbreviations is defined in the glossary of terms. The definitions in the glossary are not intended to be comprehensive and complete. The reader can often obtain more information about specific terms by referring to appropriate chapters in the book. The index at the back of the book includes most of the terms that appear in the glossary.
