The advantages of using the LQR regulator is to obtain, firstly, a speed regulation allowing a maximum extraction of the power of the wind turbine and secondly, a regulation of the DC bus voltage so that the machine maintain a unit power factor for the converter-side mains and pulls magnetizing current from the stator. Essentially, standard LQR regulator provides proportional gains.
