In addition to maintaining data consistency, the database system must satisfy timing constraints associated with transactions. In this paper we present our experiences in integrating a database server with a real-time operating system kernel and our attempts at providing flexible control for concurrent transaction management. We chose the ARTS operating system kernel as the basis for the real-time database server.
