Radiation Pattern Reconfigurable Antenna Based on Liquid Crystal
With the rapid development of satellite and wireless communications, the working environment of communications systems has become complicated and changeable. To meet the ever-increasing demands of wireless communications environments, it becomes necessary to implement a multi-functional antenna instead of antennas with a single performance. This paper presents a pattern reconfigurable antenna based on a liquid crystal. By adjusting the permittivity of the liquid crystal material of the unit, the phase of the input current changes so that the directional pattern can be reconstructed. The operating frequency of the antenna is 15GHz. The working bandwidth is 9.4%. The pattern scan angle is 30° and the main-lobe gain is reached above 7dBi. The antenna array is simulated and optimized by HFSS. Each parameter of the simulation results meets the index requirements.
