The definitions of “formation”, “educational and research activity”, “research activity”, “scientific research competence”, etc. are described in detail. The author of the article states that in the process of research, a young scientist must go through all or at least the majority of the stages of the search. The paper stresses that the formation of research skills of future teachers is part of a wider process – the formation of students of research competence. It involves the search, analysis and selection of the necessary information, its comprehension, transformation, preservation and introduction into practice, expansion of cognitive resources, solving of cognitive tasks in different kinds of activities, possession of methods of activity in non-standard situations. The components of research competence, the basis of which are the relevant research skills as a necessary condition for the stability of their professional level, are characterized. It is noted that the formation of research skills of future primary school teachers is most effectively carried out in solving educational and research tasks, the implementation of which involves the students carrying out certain research activities, which are the basis for the analysis of the content of the material and methods of working with it, the definition of opportunities for differentiation. The article describes the author's definition of an educational-research task, which is understood as a problem task, which involves the study of certain facts and phenomena, actualization of knowledge about them in order to develop and systematize subjectively new information about reality Involvement of students in research activities takes place while conducting educational and research tasks, which allows them to study their own professional activities, identify ways to improve it.
