Utilizing Wireless Networks for Public Safety: An Overview of Special Use Cases

The buzz around wireless networking has been due to the various luxuries it offers in terms of ubiquity, rapid deployment and connectivity freedom. In addition to their routine usage, wireless networks may also be utilized for public safety and humanitarian well-being. In this work, we discuss how the application of vehicular communication systems may be materialized for public safety by incorporation of remote sensing and mobile computing. Moreover, we also highlight the utility of wireless mesh networks in disaster recovery and calamity based scenarios and discuss various functional requirements for their deployment. Additionally, we articulate on the possible utilization of integrated WLANWiMAX structure for remote facilitation of clinical healthcare and present diverse deployment options in this regard. Furthermore, we also analyze the suitability of these technologies by ascertaining their functional requirements pertaining to their deployment for public safety scenarios.
