Field oriented control development for brushless doubly-fed machines
The brushless doubly-fed machine (BDFM) is robust and economic for variable speed applications due to its structure and reduced converter size requirement. Although scalar controls are appropriate for low performance operation, novel control strategies are needed for improved dynamic response. A rotor flux oriented control method is formulated in this paper utilizing BDFM synchronous angle information. Experimental results on a proof-of-concept system show the method's effectiveness. The method is simple and its complexity is comparable to vector controllers for conventional induction machines.
