Aircraft System Design for an Anti-Terrorist Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
Over the past few years the popularity of unmanned aerial vehicles has kept growing at an unprecedented rate. These are being used for industrial as well as for military purposes. Most of the existing unmanned aerial vehicles are fixed wing and carry missiles and bombs hence they cannot be used for point defence. Hover capability is required for point defence which is an attribute of rotorcrafts. The rotorcraft with a gun mount with point defence capability is currently available which was developed by US Air Force. Pakistan has combat drones which are fixed wing so there is need of developing combat drones with rotorcrafts. The aim of this project is to develop an anti-terrorist unmanned aerial vehicle that can perform surveillance and reconnaissance with weapon launch system that will be installed on it to provide point defence. A brief history of usage of UAVs is discussed followed by different structural components that are used in assembly of UAV. The combat drone systems that are being used currently have been discussed along with some proposed modifications and improvements for better performance and increased efficiency.
