It is closely related to the tribe Caenini and defined by long and very thin legs and modified, finger- or pine needle-shaped chloride cells on the ventral side of the operculate gill. Such types of chloride cells are not known in any other Caeninae. A new mayfly genus of the subfamily Caeninae (Ephemeroptera: Caenidae) from Sumatra and two new Caenis species from Papua New Guinea
