Hematochezia describes the appearance of bright red blood coming from the anus. In neonates, there is a diverse array of etiologies that can cause this disease presentation. Etiology could be as simple as swallowed maternal blood, or it could be a serious surgical or potentially life-threatening situation. Our goal is to discuss the differential diagnosis for hematochezia in neonates along with the clinical presentation, management, and outcomes for each.
