Preliminary Design and Simulation of the Electrical Power System for a CubeSat Using LTspice
Space industry is on a rise and satellites are being used in plethora of applications. Smaller satellites such as Cube-Sats and Nano-satellites are turning out to be extremely useful for research purposes as they are cost and space effective. In order to support and promote space research in academic institutions, student satellite projects are being encouraged. These projects help students to work closely with space industry professionals in order to gain knowledge about satellites and their functioning. However a satellite consists of different components each one of which has a different design approach and require different technical expertise. In this paper a preliminary approach for designing an Electrical Power System for a CubeSat is proposed along with modelling and simulation of the same in LTspice which is a spice based simulation software. Complete Electrical Power System has been designed for both Direct Energy Transfer and Maximum Power Point Tracking type architectures and simulation results for the same have been presented.
