Magnetophotonic crystals with metalized surfaces: an approach to optical biosensors
Responses from one-dimensional magnetophotonic crystals (1D MPCs) terminated by gold layers have been studied experimentally. These MPCs supported an optical resonance (optical Tamm state-OTS) originating from periodicity of their lattices and the surface plasmons resonance (SPR) on gold films' interfaces. Parameters of the crystals and experimental conditions were chosen such that OTS and SPR modes were excited simultaneously by light from a selected spectral range. Later was observed in spectra as an overlap of the resonances. Tuning the overlap by a variation in experimental conditions resulted in changes of measured optical and magneto-optical responses from the MPCs.
