The three roles of ward manager, modern matron, and nurse consultant are discussed and the challenges these roles pose are explored in this chapter. Nursing leadership is identified as a significant factor in developing a positive culture in the inpatient environments and aspects of effective leadership are suggested along with ways to successfully manage, lead, and inspire a team in these roles.
