The patch antenna is loaded with EBG structure in order to improve the gain at the operational bands. The design involves a hybrid of periodically loaded circular metallic slots and small hexagonal patches surrounding the main radiating hexagonal patch. The operational bands are designed at 2.4GHz and 5.2 GHz for WLAN application. The peak gain was found to be 7.91 dB and 5.66 dB for the respective bands.
