A simple saturation method suitable for both round-rotor and salient-pole synchronous generators is introduced and evaluated for high accuracy generator dynamic models. Feasibility of applying a single saturation factor to both d- and q-axis in determining the generator rotor angle is studied from field measurement data. The accuracy improvement of using saturated stator parameter to calculate rotor angle is demonstrated based on calculation and field measurement results on in-service round-rotor and salient-pole generators with a variety of capacities.
