Stability and the transient energy method for the classroom
The theory of transient energy and stability is reviewed. Basic concepts including the swing equation, stable and unstable equilibrium points, and the equal area criterion are discussed. A transient energy method and phase plane portraits are investigated. A simple interactive computer program based upon this transient energy method is described.
