Because of its own characteristics such as the permanence of the patronage as a local power structure, the discourse of the local elites on the modernization of Brazilian Education and a constant initiative to introduce and maintain public education, especially the first letters, we believe that the city of Minas Gerais is as a microcosm of education in national territory. The methodology is based on the mapping, collection and analysis of documents of public and private archives as well as reading the books of authors specialized in the subject.
