To discuss the characteristics of the disease spectrum of hospitalized children. Method. Performing sequence and constituent ratio analyses of the disease spectrum, for items such as the principal diagnosis, sex and age of the hospitalized children, using data from hospitals which are secondary or higher, in Guangdong province in 2010. Results. The top five systemic diseases affecting the health of children were, respectively, respiratory diseases (38.0%), of which some cases (15.0%) originated in the perinatal period; certain infectious diseases and parasitic diseases (11.1%), digestive system diseases (11.1%), injury, poisoning and external factors caused some of the other consequences (6.7%); the top five diseases account for 81.9% of the diseases for which children are hospitalized. The respiratory and digestive system diseases have always ranked among the first three positions in all age groups.
