The Development of an Aggregated Electronic Health Record in Compliance with Consolidated Clinical Document Architecture
Objective With the abundance of clinical data collection in modern digital hospitals, electronic health records (EHR) has become a tool for clinical and genomic research. In this study, we aim to make an aggregated EHR framework leveraging datasets either within or across consolidated clinical document architecture (C-CDA), and show its primary experiment results in a localized Chinese EHR development. Methods A total 53 templates released by China were integrated for this experiment, the aggregated EHR template construction was based on the existing mature international standards, the three-tier architecture ISO/HL7 CDA R2, and the HL7 RIM model. A series of tools were used in this experiment to integrate data from heterogeneous systems via C-CDA. Results After designing and modeling, the aggregated EHR could be displayed in html on the browser or XSLT-compatible application. The designed aggregated EHR document was composed of five layers such as document, component, section, entry, data element. Conclusions In conclusion, our proposed aggregated EHR in compliance with C-CDA framework could leverage EHR adoption efficiency in the future.
