The allocations for the defence system of fifteen countries in the world and five European countries that have invested the greatest funds are presented. Furthermore, the share of all categories of sources of financing the expenditure and spending of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia has been analysed. The objective of this paper is to emphasise the importance of providing financial resources for certain purposes and in the conditions of insufficient resources, by defining the defence function as a very important function with a high level of priority. Accordingly, the main hypothesis is that even the most developed countries in the world cannot allocate sufficient financial resources for defence. In the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, as a global challenge to the security of all countries in the world, the main hypothesis has been confirmed. paper pandemic.
