Many Institutions in Higher Education aim to implement it for the management of certificates, the assessment of professional skills of students, the registration of non-academic activities, the distribution of educational resources, the management of academic degrees, the transfer of fees and credits, etc. The main purpose of this paper is to review the research carried out in relation to blockchain technology in Higher Education, specifically in relation to its applications in education, the main benefits, challenges, implementation which will help us find gaps and research in the future. To make this review, we extracted 763 articles from the IEEE Explore, ACM and Google Scholar databases during the years 2018–2022.
