Treating anxiety in an older adult using internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT): A case study
This paper presents Mrs K, a 73-year-old- woman who received internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT) for anxiety, after presenting with high levels of worry, following the separation from her husband. Her associated psychological distress and low mood was maintained by high levels of worry, and low self-worth. This resulted in her withdrawing from friends and relying heavily on her daughter. The sessions took place online during the Covid-19 lockdown. Treatment consisted of psychoeducation about anxiety, relaxation techniques and worry management. Monitoring of Mrs K’s anxiety and distress indicated a reduction in worry and psychological distress after ten sessions of therapy.
