A Study on Demand Response Potential from Load Profiles of Smart Household Appliances
The Federal Government energy policies strongly encourage smart homes to actively participate in grid services for increased energy efficiency, as well as reliable and secure grid management. Smart households with smart flexible loads can actively assist in important grid management services such as power system frequency response. This paper aims to investigate the power consumption profiles of specific household appliances, i.e., a fridge, a washing machine, a dishwasher, a flooring heating system, a tumble dryer, and an electric water heater (EWH) installed in the Demand Response Living Lab at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. Power usage information as well as load accounts of home appliances are vital for demand response research. In this work, power consumption accounts are presented to show their potential for fast active power response. The monitoring and conversation built in this research study would certainly be helpful to understand the potential of smart household appliances for grid-balancing services.
