Case study of an integrated expansion planning of coupled large urban electricity, gas and heat grids
In this case study, an integrated expansion planning of coupled electricity, gas and heat grids as well as coupling technologies of a large German city are presented. Based on a novel integrated planning method and a scenario on generation and load of electricity, gas and heat, the three grids and the coupling technologies are dimensioned for a future supply task. Afterwards, they are analysed regarding their suitability for renewable energy integration. This is conducted for four target images, representing a joint strategic expansion of all infrastructures towards either electrification, hydrogen use, further heat grids or holding to the status quo. To calculate the steady state and time series of the grids and the couplings, a previously published multi-energy flow calculation tool is used.
