A probabilistic operation method of power systems with WFs considering voltage and power flow constraints
This paper assesses the fluctuation of voltage and power flow on transmission lines from a probabilistic perspective in power systems with a large amount of Wind Farms (WFs). Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) determines the generation of thermal generators to limit the overloading probability on transmission lines considering the uncertainty caused by the output variation of WFs under N-1 criterion. The redistributed generation of the generators and the uncertain generation of WFs may cause voltage fluctuation. The conventional static condensers (SCs) keeping the system voltage in the proper range are adjusted to avoid this voltage violation. In conventional systems, the SCs have been utilized to keep the system voltage in the proper range when load changes. However, with a large amount of WFs, the size of the voltage fluctuation may be larger due to the output variations of WFs. So, the amount of SCs must be adjusted more precisely considering the effect of the output fluctuation of WFs to prevent the overvoltage risk from being over the predefined value. The control capacity of SC is determined by solving the optimization problem proposed in this study using Particle Swarm Optimization.
