Sensor Management for Localisation of an Evasive Target: The Benefits of Game Theory
This paper investigates the benefits of applying the (non-cooperative) game theory in the context of sensor management for search and localisation of an evasive target, reminiscent of a pursuit - evasion game. The pursuing platform is equipped with a bearings-only sensor and decides sequentially where to move next, using a multiple-step ahead game theoretic approach. We quantify the duration of the evading platform survival for different levels of its intelligence: from the level fully matched to that of the evader to the total lack of intelligence. Numerical results confirm the necessity of the game theoretic intelligence.
