Capturing Discontinuities in Optimal Control Problems
We present a method for automatically capturing discontinuous features when using hp-adaptive pseudo-spectral methods to solve an optimal control problem. The simultaneous reduction of the objective cost and the approximation error at discontinuities is obtained via the use of a flexible mesh, where the end-points of the time intervals are included as decision variables in the optimization problem.
