Abstract Increasingly countries are looking at ways to improve the performance of their cadastral systems and are examining ‘benchmarking’ as one option. As with all comparative analyses, including benchmarking, obtaining useable data is critical. This paper presents the results of a project to compare the performance of cadastral systems internationally, undertaken over the last two years by Commission 7, International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) (which is responsible for cadastre and land management matters within the FIG). The paper is primarily concerned with presenting data based on appropriate performance indicators and does not attempt to draw conclusions from the data.
