On the accuracy of IID model for rural Wi-Fi networks
Accurate design and performance evaluation of wireless protocols and systems are inherently dependent on an accurate model of the underlying channel. In this paper, an independent and identically distributed (IID) error model is used to describe traces of a public dataset collected in rural Wi-Fi networks. Our work shows that IID model is an adequate error model to describe the intervals of two consecutive error frames, while it fails to capture the burst error distribution. To improve the IID model, we propose an improvement on the IID model and simulation results show the improved IID model is a simple yet effective error model for the frame error process.
