Pseudomonas fluorescens: Mecanismos y aplicaciones en la agricultura sustentable
Biological control or biocontrol using microorganisms has become an alternative in the treatment of plant pathogens, it is considered as one of the most efficient and ecological practices in the development of a sustainable agriculture. For this reason, some bacterial species are considered excellent candidates, such as Pseudomonas fluorescens. This bacterial species inhabits the rhizosphere, promotes plant growth and exhibits a great adaptation and colonization capacity to different types of soils, reason for why it is associated with a wide variety of plant species. P. fluorescens strains exhibit direct and indirect effects on the interaction with plants, among direct effects are the synthesis of phytohormones, production of siderophores, mineral solubilizers, and are involved in the synthesis of multiple volatile compounds. Indirect effects include the inhibition of phytopathogenic fungi that are interacting with the same rhizospheric environment. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the effect of Pseudomonas on the growth and development of plants, as well as to address the pioneering work on the contributions to sustainable agriculture; and to know the mechanisms and advantages that it presents for the biocontrol of phytopathogenic organisms in plants with commercial interest.
