Self-Excited Induction Generator with Electronic Load Controller installed in Naran, Pakistan
The shrinking energy resources being faced by world, have led to extensive hunt for renewable energy generation. The increased use of non-conventional energy sources and decentralization of power generation is a novel trend in electric power production. With the development and rapid growth of independent electric power stations and micro/Pico hydro power systems, in non-conventional energy systems induction generators are increasingly being used. In isolated systems, self-excited induction generators (SEIGs) are squirrel cage induction generators with capacitor excitation, that are very popular. This paper investigates the implementation and installation of SEIG with capacitor bank for excitation and its single phase output voltage supplied to load through Electronic load controller (ELC) to keep the voltage level constant for load being served. By using this technique, the problem of voltage fluctuation caused by variable speed will be overcome. For small uncontrolled hydro turbine or wind turbine or for any isolated small power applications, this proposed induction generator setup is useful. The effectiveness of the proposed induction generator and its good performance is confirmed from experimental results and installed in Naran, Pakistan for power generation.
