PLCs are used preferably in commercial and industrial applications. This paper is dedicated to explain the initiatives for teaching an advanced PLC course to graduate students. The methods and techniques in the industrial field toward a better use of PLCs are introduced. A Concise overview about the main research tracks in the PLC is given in the scope of this paper. The course is structured to cover the necessary issues in the industry as well as in the research.
