Based on the experiment of applying 3D laser scanning technology to the underground survey in a goldmine, the method of 3D data capture and data processing are introduced in detail. 7 scans were performed to capture almost 29 million points within 2 hours using Trimble FX Laser Scanner. Accurate spatial information such as section, surface area and volume and 3D model of roadway are obtained from the point clouds at last. Results of the experiment indicate that 3D laser scanning technology cannot only greatly improve the safety and efficiency of underground survey but also assist in building Digital Mine database.
