Structural analysis of Air Transport Network using Network indicators
Air transport is one of the many networked systems where human societies depend upon, and it has contributed largely to the growth of many countries. Airline networks in particular have significantly lowered the spatial and time limits on moving people, goods, and information-all of which are becoming more and more critical elements for the information economy. Therefore, regions are more concerned with the quantity and quality of airline connections. The goal of this study is to examine the global airline network connectivity hierarchy that is now developing, based on the air routes that are connected to important airports all over the world by building an air transportation network. Network analysis is done using lobby index to uncover the robustness of air transport networks while facing random errors and intentional attacks which is an important area of research in the field of transport geography. Also, a criterion to check whether strength of ties between various cities can significantly impact the assessment of local influence and lobbying power of various geographical areas is devised.
