Application of Six Sigma in Quality Improvement of Deodorant Products at PT Cedefindo
PT Cedefindo is a chemical manufacturing company with one of its products in the form of Deodorant lotion sachets. The company's quality standard with defects per unit (DPU) per shift is 1%. Based on data from June-August 2021, the average DPU of this product is 3.69% and a DPMO value of 3,952, so this research is necessary to reduce the number of defects. The six-sigma method is applied to improve quality. The highest defects occurred in the sealing process with four types of defects, they are seal join, seal damage, seal crooked, and perforation. Based on the analysis, the most dominant defects are seal joins and seal damage. The problem is the lack of operator skill to set up the machine, the lack of operators on the production floor, and the operator's lack of understanding of the SOP. The best improvement to be proposed to the company is making a work assessment form and a checklist of work instructions for operators. The improvement could not be implemented due to the pandemic.
