This paper presents a knowledge-based efficiency assessment system for distribution network using data envelopment analysis (DEA). From an input-output view, DEA method is used to calculate the efficiency of distribution lines and obtain gap information. Knowledge base is used to store facts and rules, facts include input-outputs data of DEA and other information about structure and operation of distribution lines. The rules can be empirical rules from domain expert or extracted from industry guidelines or government standards by knowledge worker. Considering the service requirements of power supply in rules, DEA assessment results can be effectively used or provided in the solution of improvement by reasoning. The knowledge base technology and DEA integration represents a step towards a real challenge of the near future. In this system, the final decision is based on DEA assessment results and reasoning.
