Paper Yielding Plants of Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand state is rich in biodiversity and rears a number of plants of ethno-botanical importance. Besides growing a number of medicinal herbs, Uttarakhand also rears plants used in making colours, dies, insecticides, insect repellent and those which are potential sources of making paper. Some paper yielding plants with their botanical family, name, habit, flowering period and specific areas of occurrence, yielding parts etc. are presented in this communication. It is also discussed that the in-situ and ex-situ conservation of these plants and the setting up of small scale industries will be helpful for the economy of the inhabitants of the Uttarakhand.
