In this paper, we study such a problem for a single machine and single product-type manufacturing system, with the objective of minimizing the sum of production cost and energy consumption cost. To solve this problem, a Markov decision process model is developed, based on which, we obtain the integrated optimal production and energy control policy by the policy iteration method.
