Internet Based Interactive Transcription Support System for Woodblock-Printed Japanese Historical Book Images

We have already developed an interactive system for analyzing and transcribing digitized Japanese historical woodblock-printed books, which has functions for layout analysis, character segmentation, transcription, and the generation of a character image database. In this paper we propose an Internet-based interactive system for editing data stored in the database. This system can be used for previewing and editing character segmentation and transcribing text which stored in the character image database. This system is based on HTML5, intended for collaborative work among multiple users accessing to the system via the Internet. Preliminary user evaluation indicated that the system has a potential for supporting users to transcribe historical Japanese books.
