- Introduction: Gender Violence (GV) is a Public Health problem recognized worldwide by the WHO (World Health Organization) that affects women of all ages and social status. Nurses play a key role in the detection and care of Victims of Gender Violence (VGV). Habitually, Professional Nurses at the Primary Care (PC) recognize these cases when they receive visits alien to the GV Detection Program. Therefore they must acquire necessary capabilities to identify and approach GV efficiently. - Aim: Analyze the PC Professional Nurses perception about the care they provide and the detection methods they use to identify and serve on all levels the VGV. - Material & Methods: This assignment was carried out through Bibliographical research of literature related to the perception that PC Professional Nurses have towards GV. Guides, protocols, official reports, legal documents, service portfolios, official web pages and data bases were used. The documents selected were the best adapted to the purpose of this research. - Results & discussion: PC Nursing Professionals encounter problems detecting VGV because of lack of specific knowledge in this field. They also describe other related obstacles with personal and institutional barriers that cause insecurity during victims’ care. - Conclusion: PC is a source very close to society, nonetheless nursing teams don’t detect enough victims, being women the ones who generally manifest their own situation. Nursing Professionals don’t feel prepared to engage GV and it’s evident the lack of team coordination and heterogeneity of services rendered. Lastly, similarities are observed between the nursing community’s revised study appreciation and the increase of actual and future knowledge, reinforcing effective multidisciplinary team communication.
