PMU and PDC server implementation integrated to real-time simulation tools
The use of real-time simulation tools brings several possibilities for improving testing and prototype assessment with higher precision and ensuring reliability in the study of power systems. This paper shows the design and implementation of a phasor measurement unit (PMU) in conjunction with synchronized phasor data concentrator (PDC software) to measure electrical parameters within a running real-time simulation of a power system. The system’s performance is evaluated under different scenarios to ensure standardized features of the virtual PMU and check consistent data collected by the PDC. A real case study of the Colombian transmission system is implemented. Finally, future applications and possibilities that can be developed with this platform are described.
