Abstract

In vegetative cells of the green alga Oedogonium cardiacum, sensitivity to killing by 14 MeV neutron irradiation has been measured in water saturated with air, N2, or one of four different low oxygen-content gas mixtures. The results showed a reasonable fit to the Howard-Flanders-Alper formula for the relationship between radiation sensitivity and oxygen tension. The estimated parameters were: K = 9·308 ± 0·98 ͜M 1-1 and m = 1·724± 0·024
