Abstract

The article presents the results of the low-frequency oscillations (LFO) study for the North-South transit of the Kazakhstan’s national electric grid (NEG) by using the monitoring system WAMS and modeling the operating conditions of power system in the PSCAD program. Given the results of monitoring and analyzing the parameters of LFO with frequencies from 0,1 to 0,7 Hz and their magnitude in the normal operating condition. During the testing of the WAMS in the power system were recorded several emergency events. By using the PSCAD program was performed verification of the experimentally obtained LFO. Has been revealed an insufficient degree of LFO damping on the North-South transit. As a result of poor damping oscillations, there is a risk of blackout, as well as the probability of a decrease in the capacity of the transmission lines. For increase, the oscillation stability requires implementation of the adaptive PSS principles.
