Abstract

The influence of mechanical deformation of the tetragonal crystal Cs3CoCl5, on the EPR spectrum of the Co2+ ion tetrahedral centres is studied. The contributions of two main mechanisms of forming of ground state zero-field splitting (modifications of volume and “shape” of the magnetic complex) are separated. The calculated angle of the distortion of tetrahedral nearest environment of the paramagnetic ion (γ – γ0 = −0.8°) is in good agreement with the X-ray analysis data.
