Abstract

This book provides a series of case studies that address multiple parts of Mississippian imagery analysis in the Southeast region of the United States. The editors begin with an introduction (Chapter 1) that highlights key aspects of historical trajectories within scholarly analysis, while distinguishing iconography from related ﬁ elds and emphasizing critical discussions that have changed how iconographic analyses are methodo-logically and theoretically grounded. Organizationally, the volume is subsequently divided into three sections of interrelated aspects of iconography – design and style (Chapters 2-4), interpretation (Chapters 5-6)
