Abstract
The present study starts from the history of the first archaeological research in Carthage carried out in the last century through aerial photographs. Some critically revised pictures, taken before the modern urban sprawl, allow us to capture some aspects of the ancient landscape of Carthage and its territory that had not been considered or that had been underestimated. The dynamics that led to the planning of urban tissue of Carthage are therefore examined in a diachronic perspective, with a focus on the Roman age, in particular on the period of the first urban organization, up to the point of proposing an adaptation of the settlement system previously set according to the new needs of the Roman city.
